Key Stages of Borehole Installation
1. Hydrogeological Survey:
A professional assesses the site to locate underground water, determine depth, and identify the best drilling spot, also checking for underground infrastructure. Permitting: Necessary government and local authority approvals are obtained.
2. Drillling:
A drilling rig is mobilized to drill the borehole to the depth recommended by the hydrogeologist.
3. Casing & Development:
PVC or steel casings are installed to support the borehole walls, with slotted screens allowing water inflow, and gravel packing is added.
4. Test Pumping:
Water is pumped out for 24 hours to determine the borehole's yield (capacity) and recharge rate, guiding pump selection. Water Quality Analysis: Samples are tested to ensure water is suitable for its intended use (drinking, irrigation).
5. Pumps:
Submersible pumps are installed, connected to power (solar or grid). Plumbing: Pipes are laid from the borehole to storage tanks or distribution points.
6. Storage:
Tanks are installed, often on towers, with proper connections. Sanitization: The borehole is cleaned of drilling fluid and contaminants before final use.
